The NYT Goes Deep, Deep Into Daly City for Jollibee

Perhaps you noticed the strange, decidedly foreign-looking fast food eatery called Jollibee that popped up at 4th and Howard a couple of years back, serving such delicacies as Yumburgers, Shanghai rolls, and something called Chickenjoy which we’re pretty sure is just fried chicken. Today the Bay Citizen (who is now, for better or worse, giving cues to the NYT on what to cover out here) visits the first of the chain’s local branches in Daly City, and informs us that the name is “meant to evoke happiness and productivity”; and this is, in fact, the number-one fast food chain in the Philippines, owned by the sixth richest Filipino, Tony Tan Caktiong.
