BYOB restaurants are usually the saving grace of cheap dining experiences. You know, gather up some friends, lug in a few bottles of wine, and leave with a respectable bill. We honestly have to admit to picking out certain restaurants solely because they were BYOB. But after having to pay a $5 corkage fee at Ruxbin, Steve Dolinsky questioned whether it was right for BYOB restaurants to charge a corkage fee. “I found it odd that if they didn’t have a liquor license, why would they still charge people to bring their own wine?” He realizes that it “isn’t really that much to ask,” but he still wondered what other people thought. We have to admit that while most places charge nothing, we have visited places which charged corkage fees for every single person at the table. Sometimes the fees can cost as much as the whole bottle. But in the end, it always seems cheaper than purchasing a whole bottle from a fully licensed restaurant. What does everyone think? [Vocalo]
