Tonight Daniel Stern kicks off his summer wine series at R2L with a selection of wines from Spain paired with dishes inspired by Spanish cuisine. In the weeks that follow, Stern and his staff will transport guests to different wine regions from around the world with similar dinners focusing on American and French wines. “There are so many things to explore in the world of food and wine,” R2L’s general manager David Sturno told Grub Street. “We grow and learn through experience and this is a great opportunity to discover different wines from different regions.”

For tonight’s dinner Stern will focus on breaking up the key components of paella into individual courses that will each be paired with a different Spanish wine. The first course will spotlight expressions of seafood and saffron. It will feature shellfish, octopus and calamari served in a saffron and olive broth. The second course is a wine roasted chicken with fresh sardines, Clementines and olives. The third course will feature a grilled smoked pork loin with housemade chorizo, pork belly and heirloom tomatoes in a saffron sauce. Wines will include a selection of Spanish styles like Albariño, Rioja, Priorat, Cava and more selected by Sturno.

Each dinner will cost $125 per person, which includes tax and gratuity.
