Patti U. ‘Mops Up Every Morsel’ at Ruchi; Carey Sweet Kind of Likes Grace’s Table

Like Kauffman before her, Patti U. adores Ruchi, the south Indian restaurant that came to replace that tired old Naan ‘n’ Chutney on Third and Harrison. She compliments the curries, loves the “silky, nutty, moong bean stew” as well as a “fragrant, hot-but-balanced meld of eggplant and sweet peppers” and she’s in love with the owners’ five-month-old baby boy too. Carey Sweet ventures up to Napa to try Grace’s Table, and give it two stars overall. She says chef Mauro Pando’s newish home a “nice café” with a few dishes that are “startingly good,” like an octopus en brodo and Creole steamed mussels. The cassoulet she calls “an honest rendition,” but overall she won’t go so far as to call this place a destination. [Chron]
