The Beverly Hills based Sprinkles Cupcakes opened its first shop in Chicago yesterday in the Gold Coast. As is apparently normal when a new cupcake place opens, lines stretched out the doors and down the street. The Sprinklesmobile stood guard outside, after having dished out samples all weekend long. We were able to get a look inside of the new shop, which should have slightly shorter lines today.
Owner Candace Nelson was on hand to help showcase the new spot, as were reality TV stars Bill and Giuliana Rancic. The cupcakes themselves were immaculate and cute. The new shop will have some stiff competition from recently opened Palermo Bakery, Flirty Cupcakes, The Cupcake Gallery, and More Cupcakes. Of course, the real battle begins when New York’s Magnolia Bakery comes into town.
