Kong, the Hong Kong street food-inspired restaurant and bar that Bistro 7’s Michael O’Halloran opened in Northern Liberties last August, is closed the Insider reports. Reasons for the shut down remain unclear, but the announcement came by way of Kong’s website, which has been updated with a splashy “closed” stamped over the logo. That in turn already has the rumor mill churning with speculations about what O’Halloran may have up his sleeve for the place. He is currently working on expanding Bistro 7 in Old City. Kong was inspired in part by the dishes O’Halloran encountered while visiting Hong Kong with his in-laws. While expectations were high in the run-up to its opening, the restaurant was unsuccessful at garnering much praise from critics. [Insider]
