Local Sports Venues Operate in Violation of Health Code Standards

Philly’s sports stadiums are not up to local health code standards, according to a nationwide investigation conducted by ESPN. The sports network based its evaluations on a survey of routine inspection reports and scored sports venues based on the number of violations of local health requirements. Citizens Bank Park, which has received PETA’s top ranking for vegetarian-friendly food options for the last four years, was found to be 29 percent in violation of local health codes, mostly for not having food-safety-certified supervisors on hand. Lincoln Financial Field’s was 33 percent in violation for missing sneeze guards on buffets and not having proper hand-washing stations set up for employees. The Wells Fargo Center (formerly the Wachovia Center) was 15 percent in violation for mouse and fruit fly infestations at one of its bars. Icky and frustrating for anyone who’s been gouged by steep hot dog prices at these stadiums, but it could be a lot worse. Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg was found to operate 100 percent in violation and was reportedly besieged with rodent droppings. [ESPN via NBC 10]
