Michael Psilakis’s Upper West Side gastropub Gus & Gabriel will close in August, a publicist tells Grub Street, though the chef promises he’ll reopen it at another location. We noted last month that Psilakis is scouting for a new restaurant location — it’s a safe bet that the 2,000-square-foot venue, wherever it is, will be used to house the new incarnation of Gus & Gabriel. So what will happen to the space at 222 West 79th Street?

Psilakis has a history of using this particular address as an incubator for his various restaurants: The space started as Onera, which moved 27 blocks downtown and was reborn as Anthos; it was home to the first incarnation of Kefi, which moved into bigger digs a year ago; and now Gus & Gabriel is closing with plans to reopen elsewhere. Psilakis’s camp tells us that the new concept is “yet to be determined,” but that they’re planning to get it open as soon as possible.
