Arm of Lefty O’Doul’s Mannequin Returns After Three Years on the Road

Three years ago, a couple of drunk tourists from Iowa snatched the left arm off the mannequin that stands near the entrance of Union Square hofbrau/bar Lefty O’Doul’s — the stand-in for beloved local baseball player Lefty himself, and wearer of Lefty’s jersey. As the Chron reports, a package arrived the other day from Des Moines containing the arm, now wearing a Livestrong bracelet, along with a bunch of snapshots of the arm in various situations and a letter describing its adventures of the last three years. It took part in a cycling race across Iowa, and also was often “involved in harassing the friends of its captors, who used it to grope anyone within arm’s reach.” Lefty O’Doul’s owner Nick Bovis, who bought the bar in 1998, says he’ll be hosting a reattachment ceremony, and will be insuring the arm for $1 million.
