Some Like It Hot

What to Eat As RockSugar Cranks Up The Heat

Hot enough for ‘ya yet? If it’s not sufficiently sticky to remind you of summer memories from a distant homeland, you’re not alone. Chef Ismail Mohan tells us he recently took a trip to see family in Singapore, inspiring seven searing recipes that he’s putting on the menu at his RockSugar Pan Asian Kitchen. The spicy appetizers include grilled tiger shrimp with a lime-jalapeno dipping sauce and a spicy take on Thai beef salad, while spicy masala accompanies chicken tikka and Indonesian and Thai heat grace beef rendang and Thai basil chicken respectively. Mohan says, “When I returned to Los Angeles from my trip home I experimented until I came up with my own versions of the dishes I enjoyed most. They had to have just the right balance of heat and distinctive flavor coming through in every bite.” If the heat is too much to bear on your widdle tongue, two exotic new cocktails are on hand for summer, the red lotus with pomegranate yuzu and calamansi, and a Mandarin tiger with ginger, mandarin, sake, and Karma Silver tequila. See the full spicy menu below.
