Plein Sud ‘Gangsters’ Celebrate Liquor License With Free Wine

A neighboring halal food cart recently posted a sign accusing the “Gangsters of Plein Sud” of starting “a campaign of intimidation and harassment” and trying to use “a mix of connections with NYPD, FDNY, and the Health Department” to “move us from our spot of 3 years” (the sign in question was spotted by Eater last Thursday and was still there, along with the cart, when we passed by a couple of days ago). If all this is true, it seems the one connection owner Frederick Lesort doesn’t have is at the SLA. A press release complains that the liquor license was “much delayed,” but finally arrived today. Tomorrow and Friday, get a free glass of wine (sommelier’s choice) at the bar, whether you dine or not. Of course, if you’re a Top Chef fan, this may be your excuse to try Ed Cotton’s food before he debuts on the show June 16.
