Inside Minor Arcana Bar, Opening Tonight in Prospect Heights

The pair behind Bushwick’s hipster hideaway Kings County open their latest bar, Minor Arcana, in Prospect Heights today at 4 p.m. with a shot-and-beer special ($3 to $8). Owner Jesse Levitt and manager Aimee Arciuolo planned the bar two years ago when Arciulo moved to the area and found her drinking options lacking in the pre–Washington Commons days. (A long wait for the liquor license delayed Minor Arcana’s opening by six months.) “We wanted a place that was just a drinker’s bar,” said Arciuolo. “That’s why there is no TV, so you can hang out and meet people.” Instead, there’s a well-stocked jukebox with staples like Pixies, the Ramones, and Led Zeppelin, and plenty of space.

There are fourteen types of beer on tap, but the draught list will rotate in keeping with the name Minor Arcana, which comes from the Tarot deck and symbolizes change. (For now, there’s Blue Point, Stella, and Coney Island lager.) In time, the bar may serve mini–beef patties from the Ginger Root Café next door and other small bar bites. Levitt and Arciuolo will also rotate the light-up dioramas on display; go now to see Ms. Pac-Man or the Swan Army.
