Today The Parlour Room of Hollywood opens on Yucca St. (yes, in Hollywood, not Los Feliz, excuse the geography error). This is another nostalgia-laced cocktail den, this time in the former home of 70’s gay bar Lemon Twist and more recently Goldfingers on Yucca. A press release informs us that the dark-wood room of booths, open-air brick patio, and antique bottles might provide the perfect place to enjoy “a precious few shots of Scotch,” though sipping it might be a better idea if it’s really that precious. What’s inside?
Owner Craig Trager (The Well, The Wood, No Bar) is a collector of cocktail recipes, inspiring him to twist up some classics like a maple syrup mint julep and a changing selection of Parlour Trick cocktails. In addition to a five-dollar martini, he’s covering a range of beers from utilitarian Schlitz to British faves Widmers and Old Speckled Hen, as well as ultra-fine Allagash Curieux. DRINK LIST RECIPES
The Paddy Cocktail $10
2oz Powers, 1oz Sweet Vermouth, ½ oz Grand Marnier, 2 dashes Angostura bitters
Stir and strain into martini glass. Garnish with a cherry.
The Maple Julep $10
3oz Woodford Reserve, 6-8 mint leaves, ¾ oz maple syrup
Muddle maple syrup and mint leaves in a bucket glass. Add ice and bourbon. Shake and serve on the rocks with a sprig of mint for garnish
The Metropolitan $10
3oz Absolut, 3 sugar cubes a lemon wedge, 4 raspberries and a splash of lemonade
Muddle raspberries with sugar cubes, lemon wedge and splash of lemonade. Add ice and vodka. Shake and strain into martini glass and garnish with a raspberry on the rim
Blood and Sand $10
1 ½ oz Dewar’s, ¾ oz sweet vermouth, ¾ oz Cherry Heering, ¾ oz Orange juice ¼ oz maraschino juice
Shake and strain into martini glass. Garnish with an orange slice
Southside $10
2oz Beefeater, 1 ½ oz Lemonade, 1 ½ oz Sprite, 6-8 mint leaves, one lemon wedge
Muddle mint leaves and lemon wedge with a splash of lemonade in a tall glass. Add ice, Beefeater and 2oz of lemonade.
Shake then top with 2oz Sprite. Garnish with a wedge of lemon
Cucumber Cooler $10
2oz Bombay Sapphire, 3 sugar cubes, 3 slices cucumber, squeeze of a lemon and lime wedge, splash soda
Muddle cucumber slices, sugar cubes, and squeeze of lime and lemon wedge in a bucket glass. Add ice and gin. Shake and serve on the rocks with a splash of soda and a slice of cucumber garnish on the rim
The Parlour Trick $10 *Changes Seasonally*
2oz Ciroc Coconut Vodka, fresh lime juice, 2 sugar cubes muddled with fresh kiwi, shaken and served in a martini glass garnished with a kiwi
Pimm’s Cup $8
2oz Pimm’s, 3oz ginger ale, cucumber and lemon twist in a tall glass with ice
The Parlour Martini $5
2oz house gin, splash of dry vermouth
Stir and strain into small martini glass with an olive for garnish
