Black Angus Steakhouse and Supper Club, the gigantic restaurant, lounge and jazz club at 117 -119 South St. that’s been making sporadic ripples in the local gastrosphere since February is now open. It actually opened two weeks ago, but due to a delayed liquor license application, has been in a perpetual soft launch mode, according to Lawrence Gilliam who owns the restaurant with his sister Stephanie. “While we’re waiting on Harrisburg, we’re going as a BYOB,” Gilliam told Grub Street. “We’ll also offer customers a complimentary glass of wine until we have our license.”

The enormous western appointed space, which was once home to Tori’s Brickhouse, features a large front bar with seating for up to 20, a wine bar and lounge with ten additional seats, a 60-seat dining room and a jazz club in the back that seats 60 more. A live jazz band plays every Friday and Saturday night. The restaurant is an independent, family-owned operation that’s not affiliated with the national Black Angus Steakhouse chain.

Andre Bullock, formerly of Temptations at Harrah’s Chester Pennsylvania Casino and Racetrack, is the chef. His menu features a broad selection of items that include steaks, chops, seafood and sandwiches. A separate “jazz menu” that features lighter fare and bar snacks is available on the weekends.
