What to Eat at Canteen, Bringing Slow Sandwiches to Mass Ave

Massachusetts Avenue slow food sandwich shop Canteen will soft open tomorrow, reports Thrillist. The restaurant, owned by La Creperie’s Jimmy Murray and originally slated to open in January, focuses on sustainable foods: think chai royale dipped brioche french toast with local organic butter and Vermont maple syrup, a salad of grilled shrimp, hearts of romaine, avocado and mango salsa, field greens, passion fruit vinaigrette, and pink Himalayan salt, and the de rigeur chicken and waffles. The sandwich selection is extensive and international featuring everything from Moroccan carrot to North Country bacon. The cutest part of the menu, below, however, has got to be Tuesday’s dinner special “Ode to Il Panino”, Canteen’s late neighbor.
