Gino’s Zebras Near Extinction

Upper East Side veteran (and longtime terminal case) Gino had planned to finally pull the plug on May 15, in the face of a rent increase said to be in the neighborhood of $8,000 per month, but that date has come and gone. Lest you think this most recent closing scare is another false alarm, City Room assures us, via partner Michael Miele, that it will serve its last plate of Calf’s Brains à la Romana on May 29. Miele says some had expressed interest in buying the unionized restaurant, whose namesake died in 2001, but “as soon as they heard the union, they ran away.”
