Danny Meyer ‘Bares All’ in The Restaurateur

Photo: Patrick McMullan

Back in 1998, a stunningly prescient team of documentarians had the idea to film Danny Meyer as he planned, constructed, and ultimately opened Eleven Madison Park. Now, right after Daniel Humm wins a Beard Award, the footage finally gets to see the light of day when it’s released as Meyer-focused documentary The Restaurateur.

While much is being made of cameos from a young, head-hair-having Tom Colicchio, the real draw of the doc is Meyer himself. The film’s promotional material promises that “Danny Meyer bares all in this portrait” — we’re fairly sure that this does not mean nudity (disappointing some) or tears (disappointing others), but rather some unguarded moments. We’ll get to see the famously calm and unflappable restaurateur “experience gut-wrenching construction delays, miss alarming deadlines, and fire the chef of Eleven Madison Park.” Drama! No official release date has been named yet.
