Michael Bauer thoroughly enjoyed himself at Ristobar, the reincarnation of Gary Rulli’s Emporio Rulli Gran Caffe on Chestnut, to the tune of two and a half stars. He notes that while “the menu can read like a dozen other restaurants” with the meatballs, salumi platter, etc., he loves the pastas and pizzas and says that chef Angelo Auriana “masterfully handles all vegetables.” He also urges everyone to save room for dessert, saying “this is where Rulli shines, crafting some of the best Italian-inspired confections in the Bay Area.” [Chron]

Patricia Unterman, meanwhile, pays an early visit to Public House to sample the food by chef Thom Fox, paying special attention to only a couple of dishes like the chopped salad (“lively, satisfying, unusual and a bargain”), and the cheesesteak sandwich (“one of the best sandwiches in town, period.”). All in all she calls it “a baseball concession with conscience.” [Examiner]
