Spring Festivals Compete This Weekend

Looks like the Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival has some competition. The Piazza at Schmidt’s is hosting a “Spring Restaurant Weekend” on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 7 p.m. The Piazza’s event features some 50 restaurants from around the region serving guests tastes from their kitchens. Participating restaurants include Bar Ferdinand, Varga Bar, P.Y.T., El Camino Real, Fado, The Latest Dish, Elevation Burger, Hikari, Wine-O, Darling’s Diner, Rustica, Apollinare, and many more. There will also be (free) cooking demos, artists, live music, a farmers’ market and more. Additional highlights include a burger-eating contest hosted by P.Y.T., a special summer block party, and a forecast of 85° and sunny. More details below.

Saturday, May 1
• 10 a.m. — 2 p.m., Piazza Farmers Market
One of the region’s largest independent farmers market featuring over 25 local, sustainable, and organic vendors.
• Noon — 7 p.m., First Annual Spring Restaurant Weekend at the Piazza
Fifty restaurants from around the region. Sample dishes from all types of cuisine including American, Italian, Spanish, Tex-Mex, Japanese and more.
• Noon — 7 p.m., Piazza Artisan Market
A selection of Hand-Picked Artists and Crafters from all artistic disciplines and backgrounds.
• Noon — 1 p.m. P.Y.T.’s First Annual “Burgerdelphia”
A burger-eating contest featuring P.Y.T burgers.
• 1 p.m. — 2 p.m. Darling’s Diner Presents Chef Harry
Chef Harry from Darling’s Diner and Darling’s Famous Cheesecakes creates his Best of Philly masterpiece live on stage.
• 5 p.m. — 7 p.m., Summer Block Party at the Piazza
Enjoy awesome live music from the best local rock bands on stage.

Sunday, May 2

One of the region’s largest GLBT street festival takes place at Philadelphia’s chic open-air plaza in Northern Liberties. SundayOUT! at The Piazza features live and Jumbotron entertainment, and over 100 artisans, vendors, and community organizations. Over 10,000 people are expected to attend.
