Last night Kogi creator Roy Choi was in New York to be acknowledged as one of Food and Wine’s Best New Chefs of 2009. Today, he officially opens his first brick-and-mortar restaurant Chego! in Palms, following a soft-opening last weekend. Kogi’s website is promising a blow-out celebration for both this public debut and Choi’s new accolade. Not much has changed since we first glimpsed Chego’s! menu, but now the restaurant has its own website and Twitter feed. The dishes are described as “simple peasant food that has all your important food groups lovingly manhandled into a single bowl,” and Chego! plans weekly specials and the rare vegetarian recipe, but is not openly BYOB or equipped with a liquor license. They also make it clear that reservations will not be taken, so expect one helluva traffic clusterfuck here for the next twelve months or until Chego! branches out.
