
This Thursday, RockSugar Pan Asian Kitchen chef Mohail Ismail is throwing a Thai-style celebration for the southeast Asian New Year holiday called Songkran that occurs in mid-April. Mohan plans a four-course menu featuring familiar Thai holiday recipes enlivened by his own sazon, in choices of grilled tiger shrimp with a lime and green jalapeno dipping sauce, Thai basil cashew chicken, a sour spicy seafood assam, green curry short ribs, and Vietnamese coconut snow cones for dessert. Since the festivities in Thailand traditionally break out into a major water fight, guests will be provided with bowls and are encouraged to flick water at each other across the table. The restaurant already says “no water fights,” wisely doubting everyone’s self-control and alcohol tolerance. Rocksugar’s full Thai New Year’s menu is below, with reservations at 310-552-9988.
