Mexico Restaurante Goes Dark for Earth Day Dinner

Photo: Mexico

Larry Nicola’s Mexico Restaurante y Barra is going all Luddite on us for Earth Day, shutting off its power, registers, and phones for a candlelight, cash-only dinner with acoustic accompaniment. Sounds serene. The eatery will also turn off its gas for the night and take to a grill to prepare a special family-style meal of wood-fired chile rellenos, tacos, tomatillo chicken, sides, and flan for $20. Beer will also be served, alongside hand-squeezed margaritas. Guests are being asked to walk, bike, or bus to the restaurant, forgetting, despite the best intentions, that this is still Los Angeles and few want to withstand the looks of local horror thrown at pedestrians. Check out Mexico’s full Earth Day menu below and call ahead for reservations, as the phones really will be off that day. 310-289-0088.
