Freshly Alfresco: Three New Outdoor Drinking and Dining Spots

Brooklyn Social has announced that it has worked out the zoning issues that got its patio shut down by the Department of Buildings four years ago, and, as the above photo shows, the back garden is open once more, till 11 p.m. on weekdays and an hour later on weekends. And elsewhere outdoors, Char No. 4 has opened a back “sun room.” If you’ve ever tried to snag a seat there when it’s slammed, you know the space was sorely needed.

Owner Sean Josephs tells us that the addition (a concrete structure with remote-controlled sunroofs and a plastic wall that can be zipped open to let in fresh air) gives him an extra 26 rain-or-shine seats, which you can request when you reserve. It’ll also be used for bourbon and beer tastings. And finally, in Manhattan, Oceana tells us it has opened a new dining patio featuring a canopy of oversize umbrellas and hanging lanterns. Expect photos soon.
