A group of “critics, gourmands, chefs, and restaurateurs” deemed Chicago’s Alinea the seventh best restaurnt in the world, according to the S. Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2010 list. That’s a climb of three places from last year, making Alinea the highest-ranked restaurant in America. But who’s Number 1?

Taking the top spot was Noma from Copenhagen, which ends El Bulli’s four-year reign. Ferran Adria’s influential Spanish restaurant slips to No. 2, while Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck picks up the third position. Adria was also named “chef of the decade.”

Close by at No. 8 is Daniel Boulud’s Daniel. Thomas Keller’s Per Se is No. 10, and the French Laundry is No. 32. Other notable American restaurants include Le Bernardin (No. 15) and Momofuku Ssäm Bar (not Ko?) at No. 26.
