The latest of Mike Gebert’s video documentaries of the Chicago food scene is one of the series’ most engaging yet — it’s a talk-heavy look at the last few days of Bridgeport’s now-closed Healthy Food Lithuanian, a restaurant that was, at the time of its closing, the longest-lived Lithuanian restaurant in the world. Gebert’s pastiche of interviews and recipe-how to does quadruple duty as a history lesson, a neighborhood profile, and a showcase for perhaps the most adorable old-school waitress we’ve ever encountered on film (props for the spectacular singsong Bohemian accent). The food’s not half bad, either.
