The Board of Supervisors yesterday gave final approval to a new ordinance that shoves smokers further out to the curb. The new rules, as KTVU reports, take effect in six months and extend to restaurants with outdoor seating where smoking was previously permitted (Café Flore is the only one we can think of). The good news is that bars with semi-enclosed patios will still be permitted to allow smoking there. An interesting note: Owner-operated dive bars like The Geary Club where smoking is still allowed will lose their legal footing if they’ve got residential units upstairs.
