The Bronx has the city’s highest rate of obesity, but it also suffers from hunger. The South Bronx, especially, is “food insecure,” meaning that residents don’t have access to staples, fresh produce, or even a grocery store. More than a third of the people in the borough’s 16th Congressional District, one of the nation’s poorest, said that they couldn’t afford to buy food at least once in the past year. [NYT]
