Our email inbox just becamse the sad home of a missive from Chicago’s peripatetic donut sellers Glazed Donuts noting that their confection production is “going the way of the dodo.” Owner Kirsten Anderson has decided to phase out the enterprise over the course of the year, with the whole thing fully extinct by the end of 2010.
In February, Glazed Donuts — whose vibrantly flavored wares had been proudly sold at venues like Swim Cafe and Green Grocer — went underground, selling only by special order and subscription, perhaps as a preemptive measure against the Health Department’s increasingly disproportionate responses to independent food production. For the time being, you can still get in on the donut action by emailing Anderson to place orders. And there are still a few more slots available for folks to sign up for donut subscriptions.
