There’s a third location of Brown Betty Dessert Boutique on its way. Owner Norrinda Brown tells us she’s just signed a lease for the former location of Assouline and Ting in the Shops at Liberty Place. There won’t be any baking on the premises, but Brown is hoping to offer her customers some of the things they’ve been clamoring for at her other locations.
The larger venue will have cupcakes at room temperature, which Brown hasn’t been able to offer at the other locations because of Health Department requirements. Customers will also be able to order cakes - although not wedding or specialty cakes - at the Liberty Place location; they’ll also be able to hold orders there for pickup (the Rittenhouse location is too small for that).
Cakes - including the insane coconut cake that has ruined us for all other coconut cakes - will also now be made in three sizes, a 6”, 8” and 10” round, as opposed to the single 9” version they’ve traditionally offered and will be stocked and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Linda Brown, Norrinda’s mother and the head baker, is also putting together a line of “Nudie” cakes, made with fruit and fruit juices rather than refined sugars. Flavors include chocolate banana blackberry, orange rum and pumpkin with others being developed.
Technically, the Liberty Place address is 1625 Chestnut Street, but Brown Betty is on 17th Street side, tucked between the Westin parking lot and the Jos. a Bank store. Brown is hoping for an April opening.
Update: The Lone Paparazzo has some photos.
