Pasta, Pickles, and Zeppole Come to the Chicago French Market

When last we checked in with the Chicago French Market, the multi-vendor extravaganza tucked inside Ogilvie Transportation Center, it was bustling excitedly with the novelty of finally being open. Now that commuters and Loopers have had the chance to settle into their go-to stall routines (a common route: Fumare for sausage, a half-dozen caramels from Canady Le Chocolatier, and a Saigon Sisters banh mi to go), Steve Dolinsky reports the market’s gone and thrown in another four vendors, every single one of which has something to get happy about.

• Green City Market pasticcieria Zullo’s, owned by Adriana Marzullo, will offer zeppole de mela (cider donuts), fiadoni (hand pies — from strawberry rhubarb through lamb with mushroom and black beans), pizzas, pastas, panini, and a daily-changing assortment of Italian specialties.

Olives 4 You will have, obviously, olives, but also olive-adjacent products like pita, hummus, and Mediterranean-inspired prepared foods.

• Playing right to the homemade-food fetishists, Gramp’s Gourmet Foods will offer Bill Brickner’s complete line of pickles (including our favorite, the horseradish sour dill), plus Martha’s Mustard and their iconic Apple Pie in a Jar spiced juice.

Pappardelle’s Pasta will sell fresh and fresh-dried pastas, in-house sauces and pestos, and a fair amount of prepared pasta dishes.

The vendors will be opening slowly over the course of February, and will be up and running completely by the end of the month.
