The long-delayed Bakesale Betty expansion to downtown Oakland (technically the Uptown district) is now slated for an April opening, Oakland North reports. The bakery and sandwich shop’s popularity grew exponentially over its first couple of years, and now chef/owner Alison Barakat and her husband Michael Camp are almost ready to debut a second, larger location with an actual prep kitchen at the corner of Grand and Broadway, across from Luka’s Taproom. “We hope to add more items to our menu, both sweet and savory,” says Barakat, who was recently featured on Grub Street’s Food Chain after L.A. chef Vinny Dotolo raved about the mega-popular fried chicken sandwich.

Bakesale Betty’s current location in the Temescal neighborhood sells between 800 and 1,200 of those sandwiches a day, a number that’s likely to increase with the new location, which is a short distance from both the Fox and Paramount Theaters.
