What to Eat at The Big Easy, Now Open

Jennifer Gavin’s iteration of Hyde Park’s much-beleaguered Orly’s space, The Big Easy, has been open for a few weeks now and is slowly but surely working its way into the hearts of its neighbors — a Grub Street spy was there last week and said that the space, while not packed to the gills, had a healthy crowd and the food was “better than the barbecue place” that preceded it, but might not yet be at the level of the dear departed Dixie Kitchen. Still, Gavin’s got the chops to draw them in: the Hell’s Kitchen vet has fleshed out her classic Cajun/Creole menu with twists like wings with peach-chipotle sauce, and a “Fried Green Tomato Supreme” sandwich decked out with bacon, guacamole and melted cheddar.
