What to Eat and Drink at Station Hollywood, Open Tomorrow at The W Hotel

Joining Delphine tomorrow at the new W Hotel Hollywood is Station, an outdoor lounge focused on cocktails and flash. Station is named for the Red Line Metro at Hollywood and Vine and features fire pits, couches, and a giant retractable movie screen for that one friend who has nothing to say and has trouble focusing on the ones who do. If a bar is doing cocktails in L.A. these days, they have to come correct. This one initially worried us when we received a clever mixology menu bearing takes on famous L.A. names and noticed the corso and jalapeno drink misspelled as “Olivera Street Punch.” Ai!

Stabs at spelling and fitting in with the locals aside, the cocktails contain ambitious mixes like a “Chai and Rye” with house chai vermouth and R(i) whiskey, and a “Mullholland Drive” with vanilla-bean infused Cazadores reposado, ginger syrup, lime, and soda. While not very Mullholland Drive in content, the $14 cost could be what they’re talking about. The drinks certainly sound worthy of our “cocktail moment,” with fresh muddled strawberries and old school cocktail recipes given a creative shot in the stem. Though Station has a fairly reasonable wine list by bottle and glass, it often hits triple digits and a champagne list appears geared towards table bottle service, ranging from $80-$900. Cognac bottle service could cost you $5,000, making newly signed rappers the possible target demo here.

There is a wide swath of international bar eats to soak your drinks up, too. A short menu features Jamon Serrano and drunken goat cheese, la petite nicoise grilled tuna (which, for $14, better not be too petite), crab spring rolls, a burger ($13), and arancini arribiata, among other plates. Naturally, with a name like The W and a location at Hollywood and Vine, this will probably pop off like Stone Rose Lounge’s outdoor lounge did in its early days. Time will tell whether our fellow Lost Angels will warm to cocktails like “The Los Angeles Thymes” or laugh their heads off and find their muddled magic elsewhere. Open, starting tomorrow, from 5 p.m.-midnight Sunday through Thursday and 5 p.m.-2 a.m. Friday and Saturday
