After the New Year’s closing of smokers’ haven Amber, owner Peter Garcia and design team Riter + Feltham did a quick turnaround with the space, which reopens tonight as an upscale cocktail club called The Residence. With an interior full of artifacts ascribed to a fictional “Mr. Goodbarr” who may be a distant cousin of J. Peterman, the décor promises to capture “the timeless elegance of a cosmopolitan dwelling while maintaining the cozy warmth of a country manor.” We’d recommend sipping on their take on the Sazerac called The French Quarter, which combines Russell’s Rye, Kübler Absinthe, and bitters (Garcia is responsible for the cocktail menu as well). After a brief private party, The Residence opens to the public at 9 p.m. (718 14th Street).
