Beloved Edgewater diner Standee’s closed its doors this morning after 60 years of continuous operation, reports Chicago Breaking News. The last breakfast was attended by a coterie of regulars — including a couple who met at the restaurant — while owner Adolfo Suastegui packed up the place. Before you go into deepest mourning, though, know that Suastegui plans to relocate the diner to a new storefront down the street, with an anticipated March opening and “the same food, same hours and same people.” Alas, the iconic Standee’s sign doesn’t move with him: it’s gone to a better place — to be specific, Indiana, home of a buyer who picked it up for a mere $500.
