Prepare for Rick Bayless, Los Angeles, as Eater confirms that The Ricker is indeed the “big, famous” chef hired by the owners of Ma’Kai to handle kitchen duties at their forthcoming Mexican restaurant chain Red Onion. Señor Ricardo Sin-Bahia was recently spotted around town eating at the restaurants of his Modern Mexican chef peers, like Rivera and Provecho. When pressed by Daily Dish, it was explained the Top Chef Masters-winner was merely in town for an event in Napa. Apparently not so, as Bayless is now said to be a partner in the venture and will make monthly trips to L.A. to oversee staff and keep everything to his standards. So he won’t be in the kitchen all the time? Does that mean we’ll really have our own Bayless joint, or remain in a Bayless-less limbo? Maybe Grant Achatz can set this straight.
