Closings

One High-End Mexican Place Closes; A Vegan One Opens

The tidal wave of new year’s closings has claimed another victim: Eater brings word that Zazil at the Westfield Center has closed, making it the first of that quartet of eateries on the top floor of the mall to bite the dust since their simultaneous openings in 2007. The pricey, coastal Mexican joint is survived by Colibri, Sraits, and Lark Creek Steak.

On a lighter note, the folks who brought you Café Gratitude, Terces and Matthew Engelhart, just opened a new 100% organic, vegan Mexican place in the Mission called Gracias Madre. All their cheeses and ice creams are made from nuts, and all the corn in their tortillas comes from non-GMO, heirloom corn, some of which they grow on their own biodynamic farm.
