It’s an open secret that the world of cupcakes is cutthroat and vicious behind its veneer of frosting and pastellery, we’ve always imagined that the rival dessert universe of pie is as wholesome and friendly as, well, apple pie. To solidify our stereotype, Chicago pie queen Paula Haney of Hoosier Mama Pie Company and her husband Craig Siegelin are interested in sponsoring an amateur pie-maker to participate in the National Pie Championships, held in April in Celebration, Florida, reports Digging In.

Haney and Siegelin are hoping to chip in to offset costs, and will drum up support via promotion in the Hoosier Mama shop in Ukranian Village. With only 100 entrants in the contest each year, the grand prize of $5,000 and a Sears range could be yours. Are you (and your pie) nice enough? [Digging In]
