Oaxacan legend-in-its-own-time Guelaguetza has temporarily shuttered its Westside space on Palms. Zagat reveals that the Mexi restaurant has been gutted for a “massive renovation” so big-time fan Martha Stewart will have to slum it to K-Town when she’s jonesing for some mole. But there are even bigger beans to spill on this poppin’ Oaxacan. A trip to Guelaguetza’s homepage reveals a location landing in Las Vegas in the near future, with an address just a few blocks off the strip in a big building currently housed by one “Mack Ribs and Fried Chicken.”
A Mack spokesperson tells us they “have no idea” if this is true or not, and also seemed to have no pressing concerns about the matter. A call to Guelaguetza H.Q. revealed a considerably cagier response that, while a Sin City locale once looked certain, they now “don’t know yet” and that there are details they’re “still trying to work out.” While we’re yet to smell Sam Nazarian lurking in the shadows, a fancy new look and Vegas address can only mean big things are in the ether for this local empire.
