Lately, a lot of highbrow bars and restaurants seem to be stooping to football specials, and we can only imagine it has something to do with the recession. But when St. John Frizell tells us he’s turning his genteel watering hole, Fort Defiance, into a New Orleans sports bar for one day only, we know it’s because his heart’s in it. Frizell is a hard-core Saints fan and to prove it this Sunday (when the “Ain’ts” try to march to their first Super Bowl), the consummate mixologist is breaking out the Jell-O shots (that’s right, straight-up Jell-O shots — not even highfalutin “solids” à la Eben Freeman) and inviting along the “Jägerettes” (the next best/worst thing to Hooters girls in Brooklyn). And just to increase the likelihood that he’ll be stuck mopping the bathroom floor at the end of the night, he’s finally stooping to frozen hurricanes! Here’s what else will be on offer starting at 5 p.m. (kickoff is at 6:30 p.m.).
-Frozen daiquiris, just like that drive-thru place up in Riverbend!
-Jello shots!
-Mardi Gras beads and king cake!
-Red beans and rice, fried catfish, muffulettas, and other New Orleans dishes!
-The Jägerettes! That’s right, the JÄGERETTES of Jägermeister fame!
PLUS
-$5 Abita pints all day–Turbodog and Restoration Pale Ale!
-A playlist of every Saints tribute songs recorded this year!
Now, if they could just get the piano man from Lafitte’s for the half-time show …
