Whiskey Bar & Grill Gets a Makeover, Kills Off Mexx

Totally
Totally “lived-in,” right? Photo: Whiskey Bar & Grill

Call it a slight relief in our increasingly crowded Mexican-food landscape: Mexx Kitchen at the Whiskey is no more. The restaurant-within-a-restaurant is a casualty of Whiskey Bar & Grill’s total reconceptualization — an attempt by owner Rande Gerber to bring back the pretty people and all their pretty money. 312DD reports that Gerber’s called in big names in Chicago nightlife to run the show, added a DJ booth, and redone the space for a “lived-in” feel, which apparently means reclaimed wood and leather banquettes. If that sounds up your alley, there’s a free soft-opening party tonight hosted by Chicago-Scene with a Stoli-sponsored bar from 8 p.m.-10 p.m. [312 DD]
