After looking at the edible odds and ends coming to Santa Monica Place’s re-envisioning next summer, we learn there’s going to be an open air market on the dining deck where indie vendors will sell specialty foods. Eater tells us the whole shebang is hoping to capture the appeal of the Ferry Building in San Fran and Manhattan’s Chelsea Market and to expect fresh fish, meat, chocolate, and cheese among the gourmet goodies. Sounds enticing to us, after initial worries that it would steal some shine from the city’s esteemed farmer’s markets. If a grand success, we think the weekly 3rd Street market would benefit greatly from the shopping center becoming a food destination beyond Panda Express.
