We’ve been meaning to point you in the direction of this Philly mag article about the sunset of Georges Perrier’s career, ominously titled “The Last Days of the French Chef,” for some time now, but were waiting for it to appear in its entirety online. It’s a pretty hard-hitting analysis - especially in light of the gentle touch of the magazine’s previous chef profiles on Marc Vetri and Jose Garces - and contains some cringe-worthy moments, like when Perrier plunks down in his dining room at a table full of Philly bigwigs and “still clad in his stained chef’s whites” subjects them to a ratcheted-up version of the tirades he’s known for, which garners this response from a witness: “I think at first there was a certain air of amusement, because, well, that’s Georges,” says one. “I didn’t feel disrespected, but after a while, I mean, I’m a customer. Frankly, I just don’t want to hear this shit.” While that customer may not want to hear it, we highly recommend you read about it.
