New Food Trucks Arrive From Every Direction

It’s raining…food trucks! Yes, there are now six more globally focused street-sweeping caterers hitting the streets (perhaps this is the boom after the boom?). First up are two Mediterranean upstarts. Eater L.A. lets us know that Vesuvio is bada-binging its way onto the road in the coming weeks, serving Southern Italian street eats like mozzarella-stuffed aranchini and lots of subs, with recipes inspired by the owner’s “nonna.”

Coming from the same general direction is Lokus To Go, which LAist informs us is not related to a nomadic set of Sureños, but rather a truck serving Greek faves from gyros and honey feta fries to the eponymous Loukoumades donuts. The truck is O.C.-based but not specifically O.C.-bound. Lokus can be tracked on Twitter.

Umami Burger finally debuted their truck, bent on catering your functions and hanging around Fred Segal in Santa Monica, this week at Downtown’s Festivus. They serve the superstar Japanese burgers of course, and though we haven’t tasted the truck’s version yet, figure they have to better than Marked 5’s in-congruent creations.

Also springing from Asian influences is YumYum Bowls, the first Thai Truck out there, which The L.A. Times says springs from the mind and cookbook of Tommy Buratarat of San Diego’s House of Thanon. YumYum serves drunken noodles, pad thai, curries, satay, and finger food-friendly rolls. The truck, which features the potentially inflammatory caricature seen above, is currently making soft-runs around town. The Daily Dish’s Elina Shatkin also clues us into the recent revvings of Mandoline, a truck serving Vietnamese cuisine for all, including vegans.

Lastly, coming from two Oregon-bred sophomores at UCLA, there’s the Cool Runnings Rasta Food Truck From Yard No Problem Mon vehicle, serving pork belly patties and oxtail-slathered fries. No, we’re just messing with you, that doesn’t exist…yet. Though you might want to brace for such horrors. At this point, we could use a great jerk chicken truck on the side of our roads. The Daily Gleaner perhaps?
