Medjool Rooftop Gets Two-Month Reprieve

Despite it being freezing and not really prime time for roof-deck dining in the Mission, the Chron reports that Medjool’s rooftop bar remains open and the restaurant has been given until February 10th to obtain the necessary permits. We’ve reported before on this year-long battle between the planning department and business owner Gus Murad, which began last February with moves by the City to impose daily fines on the unsanctioned al fresco space. Murad served on the City’s Small Business Commission before resigning in September, and faced both allegations of special treatment due to his contributions to Gavin Newsom’s campaign coffers, and noise complaints from neighbors like the adjacent Buddhist Center. Before February, Murad is expected to act in good faith to obtain a conditional use permit and limit noise disruptions for neighbors.
