Beloved Butcher Harry Ochs Goes to the Great Meat Market in the Sky

Harry G. Ochs, the owner of Harry G. Ochs and Sons’ meat stand in Reading Terminal Market and perhaps the original rock-star butcher, died over the weekend after a long battle with cancer. His obituary in the Inky is full of interesting facts about the amiable 80-year-old butcher, who started working in the Market as a teenager and helped to save it when it was nearly torn down in the ‘80s. Despite the German name and origins of his shop, Ochs was actually Italian and was born Harry G. Finocchio, but changed his name to Ochs after taking over the stand from the original Harry Ochs.
