• In a rare negative review, Michael Nagrant is less than impressed by the offerings at DMK Burger Bar, calling it the “Sandra Bullock to Kuma’s Angelina Jolie.” (File under: damning with faint praise! Also file under: Fun facts about Michael Nagrant’s aesthetic standards!) Keeping with the lady-celeb analogies, there are at least the redeeming sweet potato fries, whose sugary sexiness make them “the Anne Hathaway of Chicago-area spuds.” [NewCity]
• After a trip to Spain, Dennis Ray Wheaton is ready to dive headlong into Chicago’s pintxos scene, but finds it sorely lacking: the eponymous restaurant is hit-or-miss, but the hits are undermined by the vast, empty dining room. Thank heaven for Chicago’s original tapas joint, Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba, where the dollar snacks are flavorful, the service is terrific, and the sangria is potent. [Chicago Mag]
