Allison Arevalo, who came to Berkeley via Brooklyn, has been writing the blog Local Lemons since making the cross-country move with her husband earlier this year – the name came from the smell of lemon trees in her neighborhood. Inspired by talking with a couple friends, she recently started a series called Fast Food Slow that SFoodie called our attention to, in which she’s recreated fast food favorites like the Big Mac and Chicken McNuggets using local, organic ingredients like Niman Ranch beef, Clover mild cheddar cheese, and Mary’s Farm chicken from the San Joaquin Valley. Her secret for the essential “special sauce” on the burger? She combined an olive oil aioli with homemade French dressing and added some chopped shallots. Fattening for sure, but the thing looks drippingly good.
