Michael Bauer delivered several blows to Hubert Keller’s Burger Bar on the sixth floor of Macy’s, calling the interior “like Tadich Grill meets Johnny Rocket’s,” and saying of the Surf & Turf Burger, “I can’t figure out why anyone would want a rubbery slab of lobster on a beef patty, along with nearly raw spears of asparagus.” He did like the quarter of the foie-gras-and-Kobe burger he tried, but noted lukewarm fries on multiple occasions and has nothing good to say about the “ineffective” staff.
Patricia Unterman, who never met a Thai restaurant she wouldn’t try, returns for a second visit to Lers Ros on Larkin Street and still can’t believe “how exciting” the food is – “hot, sour, sweet and salty; sparkly with citrus, herbs and roots; crunchy with fried shallots, garlic and peanuts; and profoundly balanced.”
