The owners of Jibek Jolu (5047 N. Lincoln, 773 878 8494) estimate that there are only about 50 Kyrgyzstanis living in Chicago, but they’re happy to evangelize their cuisine to the rest of the city. The Reader’s Mike Sula swings by the new Lincoln Square restaurant and finds delights like samsy (hand pies filled with lamb or potato), and lagman (“a soupy, garlicky bowl of noodles topped with lamb, daikon, banana peppers, and tomatoes.”) Which all sounds pretty good to us, but the owners are mitigating expectations right there on the menu, which reads “Don’t expect the food in Kyrgyzstan to be the highlight of your trip.”
